Energy Storage Engineer

Reports to: Manager of Procurement, Solar

Benefit Classification: Salary Exempt

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; or equivalent combinations of experience and training. A Professional Engineering (PE) License, Engineer in Training (EIT) or the ability to pass the EIT exam preferred.

Experience:  Minimum of 3 years of equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience in similar roles within the energy storage industry.  Knowledge and experience managing construction projects and/or client relationships is beneficial.

Position Summary:  Provides technical knowledge and works with the procurement team to identify potential leads and assists estimators with development of pricing proposals.  This person will travel to perform business development functions and sell the Company’s engineering and design capabilities to Independent Power Producers and Utilities.  This position will network and sell BEI services at trade shows and conferences.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provide technical vendor reviews and qualifications to strengthen and maintaining existing contacts of major equipment suppliers and develop new vendor relationships. 
  2. Develop a thorough understanding of the various incentives and market drivers for each state and system operator; and communicate this information to appropriate managers.
  3. Understand the various battery technologies and industry practices to provide guidance to the organization on the application of technology. Educate the procurement, engineering, and operations teams on latest industry technology.
  4. Evaluate available and emerging storage technologies and communicate new technology development and risks associated with the new technology.
  5. Direct corporate response to RFPs/RFQs in regard to plant integrator, equipment and technology selection.
  6. Track industry requirements for guarantees and develop strategy around risk mitigation to offer such guarantees.
  7. Builds effective relationships with clients and stakeholders in the industry to understand the client’s appetite for storage, their method of procurement and help grow BEI business by increasing the market awareness of BEI’s ability and success in market segment services.
  8. Participates in business development activities such as trade show appearances, conventions, conferences, etc. Presents a professional image when selling BEI’s experience, services and value when meeting with clients or potential clients.
  9. Collaborates with Marketing and Procurement teams in the preparation and coordination of proposals, proposal materials, and other marketing efforts in support of the market segment.  This may include gathering, verifying, and formatting proposal information. 

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of the US solar markets in planning, consulting, design, and construction of work.
  • Has the existing knowledge or capabilities to become a subject matter expert in the solar segment as it relates to energy storage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong interpersonal communications - ability to effectively communicate via phone and email.
  • Experience in developing, leading and managing a team.
  • Experience establishing and developing long-term client relationships is a necessity.
  • Excellent presentation skills in an individual and group setting.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and database programs.
  • Leadership and team building skills required.
  • Conflict and time management skills required.
  • Ability to strategically work within approved budget, conserve resources, and contributes to profits and revenue.
  • Advance problem solving, decision making and negotiating skills required.
  • Extensive travel required (at least 50%).
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
