Education Requirements: Reading, writing, arithmetic and communication skills normally acquired through the completion of high school and 2-3 years on-the-job experience.  Exposure to tax laws, union requirements, overtime laws, and all other payroll regulations for multi-state payroll a plus but not necessary.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Setup new hourly jobsite employees by entering new hires in system and checking for accuracy of employee records in database.  Contact jobs to inquire about missing or incomplete paper work.  Return incomplete forms back to the jobsite/ supervisor to be completed. 
  2. Assist in per diem payments for field employees by setting up eligible employees in the database, sending Per Diem voucher to Accounts Payable to process the per diem check and sends per diem checks to the jobsites along with payroll checks.
  3. Be a back up for tracking subcontractor/third party employees for cost purposes by entering information such as new employee information, jobsite transfers, and employment separations into database.  Process third party payroll costs; which include running overtime, checking edits and making sure all time is accounted for. 
  4. Provide verbal and or written employment verification information to state and federal agencies, banks and other institutions to verify wages, dates worked, etc.   Answer employee or agency inquiries regarding payroll related questions including: unemployment claims, wage verifications, etc.
  5. Provide backup assistance to Payroll Assistants. 
  6. Assist with new assignments payroll acquire through the year.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to be discrete and handle confidential matters.
  • Must be proficient at data entry and detail oriented with ability to follow through with assignment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook), Insight, and JD Edwards E1 System.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations for multiple state (plus but not necessary).
  • Team player to work with all departments in the company and with all jobsites.
  • Ability to prioritize to work with many deadlines.
