Education Requirements: A Safety Management, Construction Management, Engineering (Industrial or Manufacturing), or related Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Experience: At least five years of practical experience in a safety or construction management, or similar is required. Construction Management experience must include at least 50% of safety management experience. Experience managing and coaching direct reports. Professional safety certification required.

Position Summary: Proactively manages corporate risk management programs to meet our future needs as an organization. Provides proactive and intentional leadership in developing safety programs for the organization. Consistently defines, supports and defends our Safety Program. Educates, teaches, and coaches employees at all project levels to ensure accountability and responsibility for process adherence.  The EHS Manager reports to the Risk Management Director and collaborates with the Managers of Construction, monitors and controls safety through the assessment and coaching of senior level field personnel.

Essential Job Functions

Corporate Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Leads Blattner's goal to “Build industry leading safe work sites” by enforcing and implementing procedures and processes, as directed by the Risk Management Director.
  2. Collaborates with Managers of Construction and other company subject matter experts to enforce our corporate safety program, electrical safety program and project site-specific safety orientations.
  3. Collaborates with corporate training management and the Risk Management Systems Administrator to monitor, adjust and assess the effectiveness of our safety training programs.
  4. Works closely with the Managers of Construction and Risk Management Systems Administrator to proactively assess the needs of the segments and will have an efficient understanding of market needs, OSHA NFPA, etc., requirements and training practices.
  5. Supervises our claims management group; and collaborates with the Risk Management Director on OSHA classification, claim reimbursement, and settlement.
  6. Manages the review of injury and incidents by analyzing accident reports and evaluates injury case studies based on available facts.
  7. Ensures that the Managers of Construction, General Superintendents and project teams are properly carrying out their responsibilities with regards to the Safety Program.
  8. Interprets our safety philosophy of “Building industry leading safe work sites” to personnel throughout organization, our clients, and customers by consistently defining, supporting, and defending our Safety Program.
  9. Researches environmental regulations and policies, and institutes changes to ensure compliance as needed.
  10. Oversees incident metrics and apply findings to the appropriate segments.

Project Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Visits project locations to verify the execution of our systems and to assess the understanding our site leadership has of them. Shares the assessment with site leadership prior to leaving the site in a face-to-face meeting.
  2. Along with the Risk Management Director, acts as a leading safety representative for the organization. Consistently defines, supports and defends our safety practices.
  3. Meets with on-site Client representatives to share our corporate culture, values and purpose.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive working knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, interpretations, and applications specific to construction.
  • Clear understanding of behavior-based safety, risk assessment, and mitigation.
  • Excellent communication (written & oral), interpersonal and presentation skills, along with strong analytical and project management skills – data driven and results oriented.
  • Ability to foster a positive work environment by promoting teamwork, open communication, and company culture.
  • Possess sound decision-making abilities as well as organizational skills with the ability to handle several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate at all levels within the company; provides and welcomes candid feedback; ability to facilitate, build enthusiasm, and achieve consensus among disparate groups.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook). 
  • Good time management skills; ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Extensive travel required (50%). Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
