Education Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Training & Development or related area; or equivalent combinations of experience and education.

Experience Requirements: Four (4) years of Instructional Design experience.

Position Summary: Responsible for using the Instructional Design process to identify the performance, skills and knowledge gaps in the organization and filling the gaps by creating effective training programs.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Conducts needs analysis to identify training opportunities and objectives.  
  2. Engages and collaborates with stakeholders, field trainers and subject matter experts to determine the appropriate training content.
  3. Applies knowledge of adult learning theory to identify appropriate training methods based on learning styles, course content and audience location.
  4. Creates learning experiences that engage learners, enhance learning transfer and increase retention. This includes in person training, videos, virtual training, eLearning courses and Virtual Reality experiences.
  5. Plans and manages Instructional Design projects.
  6. Develops metrics to measure current training programs. Uses those metrics, test results and supervisor feedback to improve training programs.
  7. Develops and implements a maintenance plan to ensure training programs remain current.
  8. Serves as a Learning & Development consultant to all departments across the organization.
  9. Researches, recommends and works with outside vendors to find outside training solutions when needed. Builds and maintains relationships with those vendors.
  10. Facilitates periodic training sessions.

  1. Provides support and serves as a backup to other members of the Learning & Development team.
  2. Identify opportunities for streamlining work and reducing waste in order to improve efficiency.
  3. Perform other duties per supervisor’s discretion.

  • Self-driven team player who strives for excellence.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, design principles and evaluation.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal guidance on day to day activities.
  • Experience with eLearning rapid authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate or Storyline Articulate.
  • Experience with the Adobe Suite of products including Photoshop and Premier.
  • Strong organizational, communication, conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
  • Holds a basic understanding of Learning Management Systems.
  • Has the ability to learn new applications and tools quickly.
  • Keeps pace with latest trends and advances in Instructional Design methodologies.
  • Having Virtual Reality experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry or renewable energy is a plus.
  • Occasional travel as needed.
