Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Management or power plant construction experience.   

Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. 

Position Summary: Works with Energy Storage and Innovation initiatives by leading design efforts for new and emerging technologies and ideas. The candidate must be passionate about and comfortable with change and have the courage to try and fail.  Responsible for coordinating with subcontractors, managing engineering firms, processes and standards to ensure the company achieves reliable, quality and safe designs.  Leads the multi-scope design process through IFC design, project commissioning, and completing post-project evaluations. Manages 3^rd party engineering firms, working with Blattner Energy Internal Engineering, and being the project lead in all aspect of project design. aligns and works with the construction team to ensure they have necessary design information and parameters to build the work. Including supporting the project design by ensuring design meets the contractual, technical, safety, and quality requirement from Client, Company and Industry Specifications and Standards. 

Essential Job Functions

1. Ideation that aligns with the companies Innovation Strategy.
2. Evaluates the implementation and integration of innovative ideas into processes and proposals.
3. Works with the estimating team in laying out designs to evaluate the total cost of implementation.
4. Coordinates with strategic vendors on their new technology offerings and implementation plans for pilot projects.
5. Creates feasibility analysis for projects and innovation initiatives.
6. Works with the Legal team in preparation and filing of patents.
7. Develops proof of principle and prototype projects.
8. Prepares reports on projects in process and completed projects.
9. Manages and directs multiple 3^rd party design/supplier firms working towards Issued for Construction Drawings for Electrical, Civil and Structural designs.
10. Coordinates and leads design reviews at each design milestone.
11. Performs the overall coordination and integration of technical activities in engineering projects and services. Direct, review, or approve project designs and technology integration.
12. Responsible for generation of design documents for the construction team to work from utilizing 3^rd party engineers as Engineer of Record. The goal is to design, model and optimize generation systems so that system meets or exceeds what was proposed.
13. Works with project managers to facilitate design understanding as start of construction occurs. Ensure there is understanding on the intent of the design and how the design will be audited throughout.
14. Seeks opportunities to add value to project.  Perform economic analysis / value engineering to determine cost effective solutions and prepare written recommendations.   Ensure value engineering is incorporated into future designs.
15. Maintains and manages engineering schedules and budgets to meet the requirements of the project.
16. Reviews and approves materials to be used on the project by attaining Engineer of Record Approvals or other resources available.
17. Nurtures and maintains key professional relationships with utilities, owners, engineering firms, energy subject matter experts and others.
18. Ensures design deliverables are received in time to support procurement and project schedule; and ensures projects are designed and constructed in compliance with all applicable safety and industry standards including ASTM, NESC, NEC, NFPA and others.
19.  Acts as a technical resource for project construction, innovation, and estimating teams.

• Recognize impacts design changes in regard to cost.  Share impacts with project management and procurement team.
