Education Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience: One year of related field experience.  Experience in Solar and/or Energy Storage/Generation preferred, but not required. *Electrical / High Voltage construction experience preferred

 

Position Summary: The associate estimator assists the senior estimator in gathering, calculating and compiling data for use in bid proposal estimates for one or more discipline areas. The role of the associate estimator is to assist the estimator in ensuring scope, schedule and price match.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Identifies project safety requirements (training, ppe) in bid.  Identifies and determines JHA risks and includes costs in estimates.
  2. Displays personal and professional ethics and complies with and enforces company policies and procedures when bidding projects, including utilizing company estimating software, performing bid reviews, etc.
  3. Plan the estimate for and during the pre-bid meeting.  Create preliminary project schedule during estimate.
  4. Coordinates the utilization and updating of company historical production database. Gathers information from recently completed projects, during and after project close-out meetings, and enters relevant information into database.
  5. Conduct project site visits and review cost/production reports in order to compare actual cost and plan to estimate.
  6. Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard cost data.
  7. Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work required; and contents of estimate and submittal proposal and critical tasks to complete the project.
  8. Calculate statistical data necessary for bid: quantity take-offs, materials, labor, equipment and specialty items.
  9. Research historical data (productivity analysis reports) and compile summary reports to develop guideline for future estimates.
  10. Maintain files of working documents to support estimate, including supplier prices, price lists, etc.
  11. Participate in developing estimating documents for bid packages.
  12. Develops and maintains good working relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors and co-workers to strengthen company position.
  13. Consults with clients, vendors, subcontractors or others to discuss, resolve issues, solicit business and formulate estimates.
  14. Involved with bid team and project management group prior to project commencement, remain available to project team, and remain involved with project.

 

Additional Job Functions

  1. Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
  2. Identify opportunities for streamlining work and reducing waste in order to improve efficiency.

 

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of construction estimating techniques, cost control, and scheduling of purchases and work.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems.
  • Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills utilized – Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project/Primavera, and HCSS.
  • Travel required.
