Spanish Translator

Education Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in Spanish translation, or related degree.

Experience: 2-4 years translation work experience. Experience with the construction industry is preferred, but not required.

  1. Read, write, and speak the English and Spanish languages fluently.
  2. Collaborate with multiple individuals from project and corporate management in the translation, of Risk Management training documents and other Risk Management systems.
  3. Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing.
  4. Convert written materials from one language into another, such as; Risk Management Newsletters, Training Programs, Risk Management Programs, and other documents.
  5. Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
  6. Edit and proof text to accurately reflect language.
  7. Employ computer assisted translation, when necessary.
  8. Relay concepts and ideas between English and Spanish.
  9. Create a new text in the target language that reproduces the content, style, and tone of the original meaning, while keeping the ideas and facts of the original meaning accurate.
  10. Properly transmit any cultural references, including slang, and other expressions that do not translate literally.
  11. Compile information and technical terms into glossaries and terminology databases to be used in translations.


Additional Job Functions

  1. Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
  2. Identifies opportunities for streamlining work and reducing waste in order to improve efficiency.


Other Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of territorial dialects within the United States. 
  • Proficiency and understanding of the native Spanish speaking language.
  • Excellent oral communication and collaboration skills.
  • Advanced written communication skills. Technical writing skills preferred.
  • Proficient in Spanish grammar and spelling.
  • Knowledge of both colloquial and formal usage of the Spanish language.
  • Ability to proof documents for punctuation and grammar within the Spanish language.
  • Proficient in computer operation and computer software systems.
  • Ability to build rapport with field and corporate personnel.
  • Ability to work in a team based environment.
  • Self-starter with willingness to organize and prioritize tasks and goals with limited supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and provide attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. Adobe InDesign experience preferred, but not required.
