Education Requirements: Associates Degree in Material Management, Logistics, or related field.


Experience: Previous industrial or commercial construction experience and previous use of databases preferred.

Position Summary: The Site Material Control Specialist will have in-depth knowledge of Blattner Energy’s Procurement and Material Management processes and will collaborate with the Project Team to support all material management activities associated with incorporated material.  Under the supervision of the Project Construction Coordinator, the SMCS will work with Trade Superintendents, Field Construction Coordinators, and the Avon Purchasing Group to learn and understand the material concerns of multiple work disciplines and help ensure that all incorporated materials are ordered, properly received and stored, and made available for installation to support the construction schedule.


Essential Job Functions

  1. Gain and maintain a comprehensive understanding of Blattner Energy’s Procurement and Material Management processes and assist the PCC with the training of Field Construction Coordinators, Project Administrative Assistants, Foremen, and Trade Superintendents to develop skill sets to a proficient and productive level. Serve as primary liaison between the field and the Avon Purchasing Group regarding material matters.
  2. Become proficient in the use of various elements of the ProjectAMP Procurement module, including Requisitions, Purchase Orders, Purchase Contracts, Owner Supplied, Receiving, OS&D, and Reports.
  3. Assist in the generation and processing of Field and Purchase Requisitions, Material Receiving Reports, Site Storage Location Maps, material inventory lists, delivery exception reports (OS&Ds, NCRs), and Warranty Claims.
  4. Coordinate and schedule material deliveries and provide guidance to Receiving and Offload crews regarding procedures for material receipt inspection and inventory, storage and staging, and collection of flow of shipping documentation. Also provide guidance to FCCs and Project Administrative Assistants for processing and filing of shipping documentation.
  5. Monitor Equipment Status Reports and work with Project Team and Avon Purchasing Group to mitigate concerns due to schedule deviations of critical path items, and contribute appropriate aspects of material status to Plan of the Day.
  6. Generate and distribute additional material reports and documentation as requested by Project Team members to support the payment of supplier invoices via Textura or Pay Applications.
  7. Assist in the compilation of documentation associated with incorporated material as required by the Owner (receiving logs, mill certs, test reports, cut sheets, etc.) for eventual turnover in the Job Book.
  8. Ensure a safe work environment by complying with company’s safety policies as well as complying with federal and state safety regulations. When eligible, participates in CATS (Changing Attitudes Towards Safety) program by becoming a trained observer.
  9. Develops and maintains a good working relationship with clients, subcontractors, vendors and co-workers to strengthen company position. Assists the site management team in displaying and promoting the company values and culture while representing the company in professional manner.
  10. Analyze and interpret field information by frequently visiting the field to collect data, and become familiar with Best Practices, work methods, and productivity.
  11. Assist with final inventory (Asset Recovery) and jobsite closeout activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Procurement and Material Management processes.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Accounting (math and record-keeping).
  • Ability to give presentations to groups of up to 10 people.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Visio, and ProjectAMP.
  • Effective communication (oral, written, presentation), motivation, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks.
  • Site Material Controllers are expected to re-locate to the project site for the duration of each construction project they are assigned to (project duration averages 6-9 months).
