Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required.

Experience Required: 5+ years of experience in the construction industry related to labor negotiation, handling grievances, and National Labor Relations Board proceedings is required.

Position Summary: Provides knowledgeable heavy construction industry labor support to our organization across the United States. The successful candidate will have prior experience in a heavy construction labor negotiation, National Labor Relations Board proceedings, trust fund issues, prevailing wage information, grievances and arbitrations.  The individual must be well organized, self-motivated, quick-thinking, flexible, and able to juggle multiple and diverse responsibilities with an unwavering attention to detail. This is a demanding and fast-paced role that requires curiosity and initiative.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Supports the Business Development, Estimating, Operations, Payroll and Legal teams to provide labor relations strategy and information.
  2. Communicates with identified construction locals and international representatives as dictated by overall labor relations strategy.
  3. Conducts research and investigation in requested areas to help inform bid strategies.
  4. Works with Senior Estimators to obtain likely union wages, benefits and working conditions for applicable Bids and work with Payroll Department to maintain database of active wage/benefit rates for applicable areas.
  5. Actively participates in labor negotiations with Estimating, Operations and Legal teams.
  6. Maintains a comprehensive library of collective bargaining agreements, Memorandum of Agreements, and PLA’s for applicable areas.
  7. Supports job site personnel on union-related requests, project-specific issues and procedures, and job site training on union-related issues and procedures
  8. Provides education and training to corporate and field employees related to a wide range of union issues.
  9. Travels to jobsites and applicable union locations within the country.
  10. Assists with investigation of union grievances along with a solid understanding of the National Labor Relations Act. Investigate, compile, and prepare data for use in grievance hearings, arbitration proceedings, labor/management initiatives and collective bargaining negotiations.

  2. Performs other duties as assigned by manager.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the ability to travel as required.
  • Demonstrated good judgment and strong critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with privileged information.
  • Ability to be proactive and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable with fluid priorities and open to change and new ideas.
  • Highly organized, detailed, and ability to time-manage across multiple deadlines.
  • Willingness to tackle matters outside area of expertise.
  • Word, Excel, Power Point and Teams proficiency.
