Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited college, or related degree. Candidate holding a Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is preferred, with an emphasis on construction, geotechnical, or structural engineering. At minimum, the candidate will hold an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate with potential to become a licensed PE in 2 years.

 

Experience: At least 4 years of engineering and supervisory experience, in a related energy or construction industry (i.e. heavy civil, industrial, utilities, power generation). The addition of surveying-related experience is a plus.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Safety: The Project Civil Engineer (PCE) is responsible for establishing safe engineering designs that compliment company, state and federal safety regulations and discusses concerns with the Lead Civil Engineer.
  2. Quality: The PCE is responsible for perpetuating designs that satisfy the design life of the power plant by establishing compliance with local, state, and international building codes and company best practices. The PCE must have a working knowledge of customary building and structural codes.
  3. Cost-Effective: The PCE is responsible for managing designs that are safe, of high quality, and provide the most economical means to satisfy the design life of the power plant. The PCE will collaborate across company departments, with outside vendors, suppliers, and technical firms to explore innovative ideas, methods, materials, equipment, software, and technologies that save cost, increase efficiencies, promote safety, and provide strategic benefits.
  4. Conduct, Leadership & Followership: The PCE will be a team-oriented professional in every aspect that adheres to the company’s cultural basics and the National Society of Professional Engineer’s code of conduct. The PCE must be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner with multiple levels of technical and non-technical personnel.
  5. Problem Solving: The PCE will be an efficient problem solver by applying factual evidence and sustainable solutions that are safe, transparent and documentable.
  6. Multi-Dimensional: The PCE shall have either a working knowledge, or demonstrated capacity, to efficiently operate at multiple levels of technical and non-technical fields; the PCE will be expected to engage in technical fields of: structural steel, structural wood, crane rigging, structural reinforced concrete, foundations, soil and atmospheric corrosion, hydrology, geotechnical, surveying, grading, laser scanning, GPR studies. The PCE is also expected to perform in non-technical duties; review and manage material and engineering pay applications, lead and coordinate site visits with engineers, subcontractors, or clients, lead and coordinate solutions with field personnel.
  7. Value driver loop: the PCE is responsible to provide project feedback to the estimating teams to capture lessons learned.

 

Additional Job Functions             

  1.    Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
  2.    Identify opportunities for streamlining work and reducing waste to improve efficiency.
  3. Performs pre-bid site assessments.
  4. Oversees and updates material quantities takeoffs during final design.
  5. Establishes geotechnical and structural parameters to apply during project execution.
  6. Works hand-in-hand with the Design Phase Engineer to coordinate and set engineering schedules.
  7. Works hand-in-hand with Owners to coordinate pre-construction field work with engineering firms.
  8. Attends job/career fairs on occasion to support the hiring of new employees.
  9. Travel for procurement and project-based purposes (nationwide). Position is estimated to require travel 33% of time, subject to fluctuations as needs dictate.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Interpersonal Skills – Ability to supervise, influence and persuade people and groups toward common objectives.
  • Working knowledge of equipment and their appropriate applications.
  • Effective Communication Skills (oral, written, listening, presentation) to effectively work with owners, vendors, employees, landowners, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling, planning and prioritization skills
  • Accounting (math and record-keeping).
  • May be required to become a qualified individual in pursuit of company contract licensing.
