Education Requirements: Related Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combinations of education (i.e. associate degree) and experience.

Experience: At least one (1) year experience working in a law firm, in-house legal department, or contracts-related role. Contracting experience, including negotiating, writing and understanding contract required.

Position Summary: Acts as Blattner’s designated contracts-related point of contact on high value customer contracts during the full project life cycle. Facilitates contract review, edits, and negotiation of customer contracts as a part of Blattner’s cross functional team during the planning stage. Handles customer contract administration and compliance during the execution and closeout stages of assigned projects.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provides contract and exhibit review and coordination of customer contracts during the bid phase. Collaborates with estimating, engineering, operations and in-house attorneys to support contract and exhibit revisions for each project bid submittal.
  2. Develops and maintains relationships with and delivers outstanding service to Blattner’s customers. Acts as Blattner’s primary point of contact on customer contracts during the negotiation phase as a part of Blattner’s cross-functional negotiation team including estimating, engineering, operations, in-house attorneys, and other stakeholders within Blattner’s organization. Guides contract and exhibit review and supports negotiations with Blattner’s customers on awarded projects through contract execution. Ensures alignment between Blattner’s negotiation team and its customers on contract and exhibit status through regular communication and maintenance of the contract and exhibit status tracker.
  3. Reviews and analyzes potential risks involved with assigned customer contract terms and exhibits. Identifies potential risks, scope gaps, and alignment issues prior to customer contract execution. Identifies project specific technical issues for Blattner’s negotiation team and delivers creative solutions to potential project impacts. Provides edits to customer contract provisions and exhibits and solicits input and edits from Blattner’s negotiation team as needed. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, guidelines, and company policies. Works with the negotiation team and other Blattner stakeholders to ensure alignment with Blattner’s overall financial and risk policies.
  4. Communicates project-specific customer contract requirements to Blattner’s project manager, site team, and other project support personnel. Explains unique terms and conditions to ensure Blattner alignment on project-specific responsibilities and obligations. Ensures that relevant customer contract information and documentation is completed in a timely manner and that all necessary information is entered into Blattner’s system. Prepares limited notice to proceed agreements, as necessary, with assistance from in-house attorneys, operations and engineering.
  5. Acts as Blattner’s primary point of contact with its customers on contract related requests and communication during the execution stage of a project. Utilize independent judgement and discretion to make decisions that are in Blattner’s best interest. Provides contract-related support to Blattner’s project managers, including communicating with Blattner’s customers, drafting required contract-related correspondence, and helping to compile and organize deviation notices, change orders, and other claims. Corresponds with customers, field personnel and attorneys to help resolve questions submitted by customers. Keep up to date on policies and procedures involving customer terms and conditions and takes appropriate steps to ensure compliance.
  6. Tracks contract deliverables, requirements, and all other contract-compliance items during the execution stage of a project. Responsible for issuing Blattner’s project insurance, bonds, and other securities and any other initial contract compliance items. Works with Blattner’s project manager, site team, and in-house attorneys to ensure that all contract compliance items including required deliverables, changes, notices, RFIs, and other required contract documentation and deliverables are completed in a timely manner. Helps Blattner’s project manager and site team to resolve contract confusion, delays, or discrepancies as needed.
  7. Audits and monitors contract submittal requirements, including preparation and execution of milestone completion certificates. Reviews milestone completion certificate requirements and coordinates with Blattner’s project manager and site team to ensure all requirements are understood and achieved. Works with Blattner project managers to ensure milestone completion certificate are submitted and all other close out items have been completed.
  8. Facilitates completion of customer financing documentation as needed. Reviews and edits financing documents. Solicits additional edits and input from Blattner’s project managers, accountants, and in-house lawyers to ensure accuracy and completion of documentation. Tracks and maintains Blattner’s project insurance, bonds, and other securities through the warranty period and terminates at warranty expiration.

  2. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with privileged information.
  3. Attends trainings and seminars to keep up to date on changes in contracting issues and insurance concerns.
  4. Stays up-to date with Blattner policy/process/procedure changes, legislative changes and coordinate with the in-house lawyers, and others as needed.
  5. With support from in-house attorneys, prepares, examines, edits and implements other contracts involving other departments within Blattner (i.e. HR, Logistics, IT).
  6. Identifies opportunities for streamlining work and reducing waste in order to improve efficiency.
  7. Performs other duties at the discretion of the supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of construction terms and construction contract structure preferred.
  • Good communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
  • Strong collaboration skills, with an ability to build relationships with varying seniority levels, including staff, managers and external partners. Must be able to participate in cross functional teams.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial approach to recognizing needs, solving problems, anticipating issues and developing solutions; excellent business judgment and strategic thinking.
  • Skills in sound judgment, problem solving, critical thinking and interpersonal communication.
  • Attention to detail with excellent time management and multitasking/prioritization abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
