Education Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. 

Position Summary: The Project Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for managing the transition from project award to final design; focused on Battery Energy Storage System design and integration into solar and wind plants; managing 3rd party engineering firms, processes and standards to ensure the company achieves reliable, quality and safe designs as well as works with Blattner Energy internal engineering and will be the project lead in all aspects of project design.  Will also lead the design process through IFC design and serve as the Company representative with the Owner during design phase.  Aligns and works with the construction management team to ensure they have the design plans, quantities and parameters to build the work.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Be a subject matter expert on Battery Energy Storage Systems and provide guidance to the company.
  2. Manages and directs multiple third-party design firms working towards Issued for Construction Drawings for Electrical, Civil and Structural designs.
  3. Manages RFIs, design changes, support commissioning and support as-builts; Including supporting the project design by ensuring design meets the contractual, technical, safety, and quality requirement from Client, Company and Industry Specifications and Standards. 
  4. Coordinates and lead design reviews at each design milestone. Design reviews will include owner, owner third party engineer, Company and third-party personnel.
  5. Performs the overall coordination and integration of technical activities in engineering projects and services. Direct, review, or approve project designs and technology integration.
  6. Responsible for generation of design documents for the construction team to work from utilizing third party engineers as Engineer of Record. The goal is to design, model and optimize generation systems so that system meets or exceeds what was proposed to the owner.
  7. Partners with project managers to facilitate design understanding as start of construction occurs. Ensure full understanding on the intent of the design and how the design will be audited throughout. Recognizes cost impacts of design changes.  Shares impacts with project management and procurement team.
  8. Collaborates with the Project Civil Engineer to manage survey, geotechnical, civil, hydrology, SWPPP and structural engineering.
  9. Seeks opportunities to add value to project.  Perform economic analysis and value engineering to determine cost effective solutions and prepare written recommendations.   Carry forth value engineering lessons into future designs.
  10. Manages third party engineering resources to ensure schedule and scope adherence.
  11. Maintains and manages engineering schedules and budgets to meet the requirements of the project. Have a full understanding of time and resource management to achieve results needed for project deadlines.
  12. Reviews and approves materials to be used on the project by attaining Engineer of Record Approvals or other resources available.
  13. Ensures takeoffs are complete and accurate for material procurement.
  14. Nurtures and maintains key professional relationships with utilities, owners, engineering firms, energy subject matter experts and others.
  15. Coordinates and leads regularly scheduled calls between applicable parties.
  16. Assures projects are designed and constructed in compliance with all applicable safety standards including ASTM, OSHA, NESC, NEC, NFPA and others.
  17. Ensures design deliverables are received in time to support procurement and project schedule.
  18. Acts as a technical resource for project construction and commissioning teams.


Additional Job Functions

  1. Ensures that each design is developed with due consideration for installation, maintenance and repair.
  2. Reviews implications of project changes and makes recommendations.
  3. Performs economic analysis / value engineering to determine cost effective solutions and prepare written recommendations.  
  4. Travels to support the site team and lead design reviews as required.  This person will not manage the construction activities performed on project site.
  5. Identifies opportunities for streamlining work and reducing waste in order to improve efficiency.
  6. Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

  • Ability to monitor and assess the performance of yourself, other individuals or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ability to perceive and act when changes to course are necessary.
  • Preferred Registered Professional Engineer (PE) status or qualified to take PE exam.
  • In depth knowledge of equipment and practices used in power plant construction.
  • The ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle driving record to allow for extensive travel.
