Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Completed at least one-year of employment as a Field Construction Coordinator with Blattner Energy with approval from Director of Projects.

Position Summary: Administers and coordinates the daily operations of the project site under the supervision of Site Manager or Assistant Site Manager.  Will be the lead supervisor in the training effort of the Field Engineer job functions to ensure Blattner Energy administrative processes are learned, developed and demonstrated.  Works with the team of Trade Superintendents to learn and understand multiple work discipline along with being a leader in cost control, quantity tracking, procurement, client satisfaction and daily jobsite needs and work activities.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Train and develop Field Construction Coordinator, Project Administrative Assistant, Foremen and new Trade Supts. The training will be Corporate processes (to include but not limited to: cost accounting, tracking, time cards, contracts, hire/screen paperwork, and division of responsibility) to develop skill sets to a proficient and productive level.
  2. Responsible for ensuring on-site Risk Management programs and processes are administered. Serves as on-site Safety Representative when necessary.
  3. Collaborates with the Project Manager on the proper use of work codes, cost types, and units of measure. Will be responsible for working with management team on establishing work codes for change orders.
  4. Oversee and complete daily production and costs by monitoring the major work items to ensure production, cost data, and safety are collected from prior day and shared with supervisors for purposes of analysis and planning.
  5. Tracks progress of project and financial status by analyzing/monitoring hourly cost and production; comparing initial project cost budget to actual daily cost and production data. Identify alternate methods of construction and evaluate costs to original budget. Assists PM and Site Manager representatives with cost-to-complete information along with learning the process and theory of the CTC. Shall have and demonstrate intimate knowledge of quantity tracking and knowing the cost of the work.
  6. Collaborate with Site Manager, Assistant Site Manager and Superintendents to appropriately staff all project positions by following established hiring policy and guidelines. Document, communicate and provide information to Human Resources on field personnel related issues or problems occurring on the jobsite.
  7. Will support the Project Manager, Site Manager and Assistant Site Manager on the collection of information for change orders, pay quantities and the estimation of changes on the job. Collaboration with the Client on these items would occur only with the approval of the PM or SM.
  8. Support or prepare monthly invoices to owner. Follow-up on status of payments if payment has not been received. Validates, reconciles, and maintains accurate quantities for billing purposes and communicates differences to management. Knowledgeable of over/under billings and their implications to the project.
  9. Ensure the FE’s create the criteria and set-up the project for the Plan of the Day meeting. Will have the ability to look ahead on the work, creates/update indicators, and implements a full project schedule with bar charts. Utilize corporate scheduling program when updating project schedule. Utilize existing Excel indicators and worksheets included in Best Practices.
  10. Coordinate and schedule subcontractors, vendors and material suppliers. Oversee and assist with preparation of the subcontractor/vendor progress payments according to the work performed and contract Schedule of Values.
  11. Develops and maintains a good working relationship with clients, subcontractors, vendors and co-workers to strengthen company position. Assists the site management team in displaying and promoting the company values and culture while representing the company in professional manner.
  12. Apply for and complete local permits as specified by the contract and monitor borrow and waste agreements.
  13. Analyze and interpret field information by frequently visiting the field to collect data, and become familiar with Best Practices, work methods, and productivity.
  14. Scout for bidding opportunities in the community and surrounding area.
  15. Ensure final inventory and jobsite closeout activities are completed accurately and on time.
  16. Ensures jobsite office networking services are set-up (copiers/printers/scanners, phone lines, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Accounting (math and record-keeping).
  • Ability to give presentations to groups of up to 10 people.
  • Ability to train and develop Field Engineers.
  • Involved with and understands 2 or more disciplines (grading, electrical, structures, and installation).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, e-mail) and Visio. Ability to access job cost information from the E1 system.
  • Effective communication (oral, written, presentation), motivation, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks.
  • Project Engineers are expected to re-locate to the project site for the duration of each construction project they are assigned to (project duration averages 6-9 months).
